Principal’s Message

Dear West St. John High Students, Families, and Community Members,
With great excitement, I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal of the esteemed West St. John High School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, a dedicated staff, and a supportive and loyal school community. I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of this school and to support the students and families. My official start date at West St. John High School was yesterday with a full day of district orientation, and I am working hard with Mr. Hill to make a smooth transition.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for fifteen years, working with students in pre-kindergarten through higher education in a variety of roles. I taught English Language Arts in middle school, closing achievement gaps within one year by 55%. Additionally, I have served as a high school instructional specialist, elementary assistant principal, and head of school. I've worked closely with special populations, ensuring all students receive the tools needed to succeed. Most recently, I have served as a University Supervisor, supporting student-teachers and aspiring leaders. I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educational leader to WSJH and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child's success.
I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of WSJH this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, openness to learning, and student-centered approach to support our students. Because family and school relationships are vital to the success of our students, my door will always remain open for the community and families to become involved in every way possible.
I look forward to meeting you soon!
           Educationally yours,
           Rayven J. Calloway
